6.2 Homeroom / Middle School Advanced Mathmforsythhcarumson.orgMy name is Marcie Forsyth. I have been at Holy Cross for 14 years, and I teach Advanced Math for 5th-8th grade as well as a Life Skills class for 5th grade. I majored in Business Administration from Lynchburg College in VA, and my love for mathmatics started right after college when I was a commodity trader in NYC on the COMEX in gold options. I later became a commodity broker for 13 years and mainly traded in the oil markets on the NYMEX.
I earned my teaching degree in 2005 and began teaching paced math and eventually advanced math. We are now using a new math curriculum titled Envision Math by Pearson. It infuses common core state standards as well as all the necessary elements for a successful transition to high school. It is a rigorous curriculum emphasizing conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency, and applications.
My classroom is fun, engaging, and tech-savvy. Our online textbook makes it easy for students to find extra practice, whether they need reinforcement or seek an extra challenge. I'm always available for extra help, as I want my students to feel confident about their skills.
